3 x NVIDIA GeForce GTS of 450th EVGA, MSI, and ZOTAC in the ring
Introduction
The GeForce GTS 450 is the newest product from the House of NVIDIA, which ‘Finally’ ATis Radeon HD 5750 attack in the lower mid range segment for a price of about 120 euros. So that customers can be deducted from the competitors, manufacturers send not only the reference design on the market (computer base test) but place there just as many own designs.
Meanwhile, three of which have found their way in our test lab. The EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FTW, which although goes with the reference cooler at the start, for raising the clock rates but extremely is with of the lot. The ZOTAC GeForce GTS 450 AMP! is because with higher clock speeds, but promises a still quieter operation with a different cooler. MSI overclocked the GeForce GTS 450 cyclone OC however slightly more leisurely and equips the accelerator with the very good and well known cyclone cooling system.

We clarify which of the three candidates is the most promising and whether this is able, to beat the very good reference design, in this test.
The candidates
EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FTW
EVGA holds a total of three different versions of the GeForce GTS 450 in the own portfolio:
- EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FPB: reference design, slightly higher clock rates, 1,024 MB

Benchmarks
The following benchmarks were identified with the current graphics cards-test system based on an Intel Core i7 965. It is operated with a frequency of 3.87 GHz unnecessarily slow the cards. As a driver came for all measurements (including power and volume) of catalyst 10.6 or GeForce 257.21 (GTX 460: 258.80, GTS 450: 260.52) to use.
1680 x 1050
Information in frames per second (FPS)
|
The EVGA GeForce GTS manages 450 FTW, to lift the performance on average see 1680 x 1050 at the same level with the Radeon HD 5770 from ATi, which originated in the but much higher clock rates. In other words the card is whopping 15 percent faster than the reference design.
The ZOTAC GeForce GTS 450 AMP! lets take it something cozier and reached so second place our test candidates. The speed is 10 percent of the of the standard model, while the Radeon HD 5770 somewhat five percent offers more power.
The MSI GeForce GTS 450 cyclone OC renders 8 percent faster than the reference design and thus seven percent behind the ATi card back. So, the performance increases with the GeForce GTS 450 by faster Partner cards like in the GeForce GTX 460 fall off quite high.

Volume
Information in decibels
|
While the volume of the most video cards is a point of criticism, the GeForce GTS 450 for this discipline seems to be just perfect. Already the reference design has done excellently and the three Partner cards do the job just as well. More talk want to we the candidates not, because the small differences are not identify with the ears.
Thus the EVGA GeForce GTS 450, as well as the MSI GeForce GTS are 450 AMP 450 cyclone OC, as well as the ZOTAC GeForce GTS! to distinguish whisper-quiet, and the remaining components not under Windows. The three video cards are barely louder under load, which they do not notice when playing even in quiet scenes.
Temperature
Information given in ° C
|
At the temperatures there are, however, major differences with the MSI GeForce GTS 450 cyclone OC done the best job. On Windows, the card must be although subordinate the ZOTAC product and its 31 degrees Celsius, for it made the run under load with 61 degrees clear first place. The ZOTAC GeForce GTS 450 AMP! is there on 71 degrees and the EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FTW to 75 degrees Celsius. Temperature problems there on none of the three graphics cards.
Power consumption
Information in Watts (W)
|
Windows already the reference design of the GeForce GTS 450 with a power consumption of 159 Watts does a very good job (the entire PC is meant), and the three test candidates are on the same or higher to a Watt. Under load, the differences, however, are significantly larger. Because while the reference design on 273 Watts, the ZOTAC GeForce GTS 450 AMP! measurably hungry with 279 Watts due to the higher clock rates. The MSI GeForce GTS follows 450 cyclone OC with 280 Watts just behind it. The distance to the EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FTW is slightly larger, as the show draws 292 Watt out of the pipe. Thus, the 768 MB version of the GeForce GTX 460 is not more too far away with 310 Watts.
Overclocking
Information in frames per second (FPS)
|
The GeForce GTS 450 FTW from EVGA is the highest clocked video card in the test box. That has achieved the manufacturer among other things, that the GPU voltage has been raised from the normal 1,062 volts to 1.125 volts. These measures seems the end of the flagpole for the GF106 GPU on the map to be however, because we can attract not only additional megahertz more from the map. The memory is still a plus 50 MHz to 2.102 MHz to. This modification does not have a significant impact on performance and power consumption.
Better it looks, however, 450 cyclone OC at the MSI GeForce GTS, which therefore comes with 1,087 volts. On the map the TMU domain up to 901 MHz runs without error, the Shadereinheiten withstands up to 1750 MHz. The memory allows a plus on up to 2.151 MHz, resulting in three to four per cent increased output. The power consumption increases this to low two Watts, while the volume and the temperature stay the same.
The best Übertaktungsergebnis we achieve with the ZOTAC GeForce GTS 450 AMP!, whose voltage to 1,062 volts is scheduled. The TMU domain is running this maximum Kart with 902 MHz, the Shadereinheiten US 1.804 MHz and coped with 2.151 MHz of 1024 MB GDDR5 memory. Between three and five percent more performance are possible. The power consumption rises to four Watt and the volume to a (unhörbares) half a decibel. The GPU temperature remains unchanged.
Conclusion
From the GeForce GTS 450, there are many different variants of the manufacturers that are different but partly quite clearly from the reference design. From our three test candidates also making no exception.
The EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FTW resembles the reference design due to the identical cooler this most trying however through very high clock speeds to level this fact under the hood. See 1680 x 1050, renders the card so that on average equal to 15 percent faster than the reference design, and reached the speed of a Radeon HD 5770. The ZOTAC GeForce GTS 450 AMP! it, however, something cozier address and renders ten percent quicker, while at the MSI GeForce GTS 450 cyclone OC left eight percent. A total of added value for all cards thus precipitates unusually high, the EVGA leads but clearly.
All three test candidates pay not much in terms of volume. All cooling systems are indistinguishable even under load from the remaining components and suitable also for quiet PCs. At the temperatures, the MSI product is “best” here, but are the other cards nor in a critical area.
Positively to lift is idle power consumption, which is located at all three Partner cards thanks to the Energiesparmechanismus’ still on the very good level of reference designs. The values under weight rise, however, logically something to, and reflected the MSI and the ZOTAC card pleasantly back. Only the EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FTW is something out of the frame and required 19 Watts more than the reference design.
Combined all three test candidates have become significantly – and this is no foregone conclusion! -from the reference design and is a sensible alternative from a technical perspective. However the reference design, in particular in terms of cooling, please know, Supplement decides at the end if the handle for the modification is worth. Viewed from this perspective, the MSI GeForce GTS proposes 450 cyclone OC with scheduled 116 euro (extra charge about 10 euro) are currently best – especially since the product as a single in Germany is available. Their only problem is a well-known: for pretty much same price, there is already a faster Radeon HD 5770, who can also score with a lower power consumption under load. Here, the own preferences should influence the decision.
The ZOTAC GeForce GTS 450 AMP! as well as the EVGA GeForce GTS 450 FTW with 127 euro or 139 Euro currently not only not available, but in our view also too expensive. Therefore, we want to give no solicitation for both products.
