AMD and HyperThreading – never say never again
During our visit at the Intel Developer Forum we did of course also a detour to AMD, which we have already summarised in our report “AMD as edge guest at the IDF”. We had the opportunity to ask AMD over Intel’s HyperThreading technology.
Of course AMD has taken the opportunity at our meeting, clarify that the Athlon XP without HyperThreading works much more effectively as an Intel Pentium 4. Thus, so loud, we concluded that for AMD HyperThreading never would come as the technology in question. Steve Demski, product marketing analyst computation products group at AMD replied pointed out that “never” is a pretty definitive word and you here still not want to set for AMD.
Thus AMD has not confirmed though that HyperThreading will be found in the next product of the processor manufacturer, completely excluded we do not have it however however. The use of HyperThreading in the Athlon XP or Athlon 64 or their successors is not likely however.
