ARD and ZDF to continue push for DVB-T
After starting in the large conurbations ARD and ZDF decided the further expansion of the digital antenna TV DVB-T in the area to provide more rural regions at low cost with digital television on the roof-mounted aerial.
The switch from analog-to digital terrestrial should occur gradually. End of 2005 around 45 million people in Germany be able to receive the digital terrestrial television. This represents a penetration of around 55 percent of the population. It aims to achieve then around 90% of German households and completing the conversion by end of 2008. There will be no longer a simulcast operation, so the parallel transmission on digital and analog way, here. Existing analogue terrestrial programme distribution to be, at the same time set on the other hand, should reduce the cost of broadcasting in these regions.
