The transition from analogue to digital television reception is progressing. A total of around 17.9 million German households look today digital television – over 45 percent. 21.8 Million households receive an analog TV signal.

This resulted in a representative survey on behalf of the industry association BITKOM. The satellite systems is a leader in the digitisation thus: 10.3 million households received digital via satellite. But also just under 6 million cable households received already digitally and therefore have access to an extensive programme. However, the number of digital households that receive terrestrial with 1.5 million is rather modest.

This corresponds to just 8 percent of households with digital reception. However, the percentage of digital households within the terrestrial with 77% is relatively high. The reason: In almost all urban areas the analogue television channels were switched off. Nearly 100,000 households already receive television via the Internet (IPTV). Thanks to the feedback channel capacity, this audience can use easy interactive services and on-demand offerings.
