Doom 3 – for Linux now multi-channel sound

The Linux version of Doom 3 was playable so far with multi-channel sound. This was mainly because that the ALSA support was not yet implemented. ID has improved software but with the new build 1.1.1286.

The improved sound but the largest chunk of the new version is in addition to other small bug fixes. On the surface of the game, nothing has been changed to remain backwards compatible. That is why the developers, the Linux gamers decided to set the console to the heart and to activate the 6-channel sound support with the following parameters: code 

doom3 + set s_driver best + set s_numberOfSpeakers 6

Rather than just start the game by “doom3″ can be with some parameters on the way, to enable some new features:

  • + set s_driver (best; alsa, oss)
  • + set s_numberOfSpeakers (number)
