Four cores at AMD for less than 80 euros?
The upcoming launch of the new processor family from AMD casts big shadow ahead. With the “Rana”, AMD wants to continue the “Athlon” brand and offer feil also with three and four cores. And that is probably almost to the knockdown price.
First listings in price this week brought the talks to the Cook. A processor with four cores but could go without expensive manufacturing L3 cache accordingly for about 80 euros over the counter. A 2.6 GHz of faster AMD Athlon II X 4 is listed in the UK for not even 63 pounds (without tax), which amounts to conversion at the current daily exchange rate and impact of VAT on over 85 euros. Also pulling the availability with official product launch and the then existing listings from many other distributors into account, the price will be quickly under the brand of 80 euros. The 200 MHz faster model is listed for about 100 euro.
But four cores are notoriously not the only thing that will offer AMD. Three cores are available with the “Rana” in the form of the AMD Athlon II X 3 with clock rates probably 2.9 and 2.7 GHz. You are likely to purchase from Kagi, the gap between the Athlon II X 2 (computer base test), which already for a few weeks successfully in the market operate and fill the new four Kernern. On their prices can only be speculated. But take a 2.8 GHz fast Zweikerner, then the costs no 50 euro more. Since the new Vierkerner 2.6 GHz probably about 80 euro will cost, remain only something between 60 and 70 euro for the smallest of the three core processor output. To have more than two cores, at the latest is presentable with this model.
