FSB1600 Xeons to stop Barcelona

For the fourth quarter, Intel will introduce its first server processors with an increased frontside bus of 1600 MHz. The Xeon processor 5000 sequence-series processors belonging to the family of Harpertown are manufactured in 45 nm and come with clock frequencies of 2.8 and 3.0 GHz.

Thanks to new production such as virtually all newer models Xeon, Xeon models E5462 and E5472 will have a TDP of 80 watts. But initially, problem of fast processors could be the availability of a platform. Only Intel’s “Seaburg” (Stoakley platform) chip set brings official support for FSB1600 with. There is yet no official date for this chipset, currently the speech but is between the lines of November 2007. Therefore, Intel could put together a suitable package of motherboard and processor at the end of the fourth quarter.

The portfolio of Intel’s new server processor with four cores should look as follows in the coming months. First models are expected in early November, while the “Harpertown LV” variants are only beginning of 2008 in the trade.
