After the launch of the GeForce GTX 200-series, it was quite quiet, what concerns the graphics cards from NVIDIA. Although they quickly sent a revised GeForce GTX 260 in the race, on real news you waited until now but in vain.

As the rumor mill The Inquirer reported, waiting from November should come to an end – but of course as always without engagement. So NVIDIA should schedule a real attack on ATi in November in which to bring video three new high cards on the market: the GeForce GTX 270, GeForce GTX 290, as well as a GX2 version of the GeForce GTX 200 series. Accordingly, the GeForce GTX 270 between the GeForce GTX 260 and the GeForce GTX 280 would file while the GeForce GTX 290 is the fastest single-GPU card. Then again, with the GX2, NVIDIA would reach for the performance Crown.

All new products the occasions mentioned GT200b should be used, who supposedly but now hears the name of GT206. It is an optical die-shrink of GT200, whose revised Variante is produced, allowing primarily higher clock rates and a smaller chip in the 55 nm process. Apart from this there was no changes to the architecture.

The GeForce GTX 270, as well as GeForce GTX 290 to pass then logically 260 and the GeForce GTX 280 with higher clock speeds on the GeForce GTX. The GX2 card, however, relies on two GT206 calculation engines and would accordingly – such as ATis Radeon HD 4870 X 2 – a dual-GPU card. Here one has to ask itself but the power consumption will be how much. The 300-Watt limit is probably only a small barrier for the accelerator. The competition has shown however that the X 2 variants can consume less power than the otherwise identical single-GPU counterparts.

Matching two photos have surfaced in the Forum of Beyond3D one this until now unknown. What GPU it is currently unclear, but it seems not unlikely to be that alias is GT206 a GT200b, to be used on the new maps. It can however also be a different chip.
