Infineon closes plant in Munich Perlach
The chipmaker Infineon has officially announced that shut down production at the plant of Munich Perlach until early 2007. The production is to be distributed to the surrounding plants in Regensburg and Villach.
Currently 800 employees work in the factory Munich Perlach. According to the company, the transfer of production to be made as “socially” as possible. Here Infineon is examining the options of further employment. Supporting personnel actions for the remainder of the production, as well as for the outlet of the production be negotiated with the competent representative.
The trigger for the decommissioning of the plant Munich Perlach is its structure. It was founded as a research institution, it was 20 years ago in the course of time however focused on the production of semiconductor devices in specialized technologies. The high-frequency products have the largest share of the production volume. However, the function of these products will be integrated in fine-CMOS chips, which can be produced by Infineon in Perlach, production runs out there.
More utilization of production capacity was not profitable in Munich Perlach because is made only on 150 mm silicon wafers. For many technologies, this production method is no longer current technical and economic standard. The production mainly to 200 mm will be changed with the transfer of the remaining technology after Regensburg and Villach.
