Integrate Service Pack 2 Windows XP CD. Slipstream is again in demand
Introduction
Actually conceived not for home users, Microsoft has created the opportunity for many software products, to integrate service packs into the products. Thus, administrators will facilitate the work, because the software is so directly after installation of integrated service packs to date. The user saves extensive downloads from the Internet, although these have almost lost their horror at the time of DSL.
Unique downloading of complete it not comes around but service packs (network installation) of the second version, except when one waits for the next editions of the computer magazines, which will certainly offer the SP2 of Microsoft on their magazine CD-ROMs. Will you capture the second conglomeration of patches and other improvements on a Windows XP bootable CD now so this is only possible with some knowledge of the correct procedure. This is it now, that is to be described in the following report to satisfy those, who want to find a safe and current Windows XP after the installation.
The integration
The integration requires a Windows XP installation CD-ROM – at this point it doesn’t matter whether on this, already the SP1 or not integrated, a full SP2 network install as well as a CD and of course a CD burner. A suitable burning software explains itself as example is represented in this report of Nero by ahead.
In the first place the entire Windows XP CD-ROM to a hard disk must be copied now, which of course should have the necessary free space. In our example this is the G: partition, so we have called for simplicity, such as the original CD directory.
Below we have renamed the Service Pack file “WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe” in “xpSP2.exe”, so as not to lose track. To start the integration of Service Pack 2, you must pass some parameters to the file “xpSP2.exe”. To do this is via the command “Start, run” and searches through the “Browse…” the SP2.exe. In our example this is can be found under “G: xpSP2.exe”. Service Pack 2 supports further integration, these can be on the attached “/ help” show how our screenshot shows. Also the included hotfixes can be easy to list, the parameter to is “/ l”.
Our project is the parameter “/ integrate: < path >” important. This function was called with the SP1 nor “/ s” for slipstream. As the path of the folder where the contents of the installation CD was copied, must be specified. In our example the following must be used for ≪ path >: “G: WXPVOL_DE”, as also the screenshot shows. Between the colon after the “/ integrate”, and the path must be no space, otherwise an error message (“required files not found”) is issued. After the call to correct the SP2 unpack first the necessary files to a temporary directory, which is elected by the program itself.
The duration of the actual integration depends on the used PC. For models with slow disks, the migration can take already times some minutes. The integration is complete, the successful operation is reported. The root directory of our Windows XP CD copied on the hard disk can be found in the file “win51ip.” nowSP2 “. Based on this file can be seen even later, at what level is the Windows XP CD.
Create the new CD
Have reached at this point we have prepared data for our new Windows XP CD with SP2 integrated. With the help of the Nero Burn program we want to ban now again this data on a bootable CD, so that one is not a problem to clean installations of Windows XP.
To this end, we have switched off the wizard of Nero, and “file, new” start a new project. When you select as type “CD-ROM (Boot)” it now links, you will reach the “options” of the new CD. We need a boot block, which is ready to download with us to make the CD bootable. In Nero, you now specifies the location of the file. This is done through the “Browse” under the title “Image file”. However, one needs to also find the boot block, “all files (*. *)” accept in the search, otherwise the necessary file “xpboot.bin” is not listed.
The next item, would be the “expert settings” to name a few. Here, a hook must be set to activate the necessary options and perform the settings according to our screenshot.
After clicking on the tab “Title” we give the name of our original CD of the CD, in our example so “WXPVOL_DE”. The tab “Burn” must be placed on “Disc at-Once” and the check must also be set at “Close CD”. Then get to the file selector, in which you left draws the contents of all the Windows XP CD directory with integrated SP2 by means of drag & drop and thus copied by clicking on the “New” button. Thus, all settings are made, click on “Burn”, the new Windows XP SP2 CD is now burned.
Conclusion
Upon successful completion of integration, the user receives a current Windows XP operating system, which includes at least up to the release of SP2 known vulnerabilities from advance after the installation. The Windows Update page is the first point of contact for security-conscious Windows users but continue, as always, patches are deployed against new error. However, the integration of SP2 offers more functionality and a smorgasbord of hotfixes, which can be certain of the user after installation.
