Intel delivers in new 0, 13µ Xeon
After Intel early last week with the Northwood-built successor of Willamette presented the in 0, 13-Micron Technology, its counterpart for workstations is now available. 0, 13µ Xeon, called also Prestonia, delivered recently.
More performance compared to its predecessor, the foster, to bring the new Xeon on the one on the other architectural innovations, through higher clock rates. So he, is made as the Northwood, now in 0, 13-Micron Technology, instead of the previously achieved 0 18µ. The increased level 2 cache probably represents the significant architectural changes. With 512 KB is now twice as large as before. As an improvement on older foster models, Intel Specifies to also support the “HyperThreading” technology. It is theoretically possible to run multiple computing threads simultaneously a single new Xeon. Because this technique especially for server is intended, the Prestonia but No should be server processor, their use is not recommended but even by Intel. Even if Windows and other software adapted to multiprocessor systems can gain by HyperThreading theoretically up to 20% on performance, this is probably in the Prestonia not decisive innovation. The now possible higher clock rates seem much more important because, so the Prestonia with 1,8GHz, 2,0GHz and 2,2GHz will be delivered. The new 2 GHz Prestonia is distinguished by the addition of “A GHA” by his predecessor, gleichgetakteten. Its more complicated name is therefore “Intel Xeon 2, 0a GHA”. The three models will be, acceptance of 1000 pieces, at prices of $251, $417 and $615 offered.
