Legal music downloads continue to rise
Legal offers to buy and download music on the Internet are still growing in popularity. So, the number of downloads of music portals such as Apple’s iTunes music store (K.o.) or Napster rose in the first half of 2005 to three times, as the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) announced.
A total 180 million downloads were in the first half. At the same time increased the number of customers download services from 1.5 to 2.2 million. As positive, the IFPI also stressed that while the number of households with broadband Internet connections by 13 percent, increased the number of illegal downloads only by three percent to 900 million. Weaker growth attributes while the IFPI illegal and the growth of legal services to the worldwide rigorous action against users of illegal music downloads in court. So 14.227 criminal proceedings were initiated since September 2003 in 12 countries as a whole.
