New Internet speed record
Swiss particle physics laboratory CERN and the American University of Caltech have set up a new land speed record on the Internet. The almost 11,000 kilometres distance was overcome with a speed of 6.25 gigabits per second (Gbps). That’s 10,000 times faster than a normal broadband connection.
The research teams from CERN and Caltech protocols have served that same IPv4, which can be found on the global Internet and thus achieved a speed of 68,431 terabit meters per second. Reach researchers want the 100 petabit meters per second, or 10 gigabits per second of throughput the year. Forecasts of the U.S. Department of energy showed that astrophysicist, climatologists, and computational biologists should achieve speeds in the terabit meters size over the next decade, to provide good research.
The result of a collaboration between CERN and Caltech is also companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Cisco, the US National Science Foundation, the EU and the Corporation for education network in California due to initiatives. For the first time the record for the spring was presented 2004 Internet2 meeting in Arlington. Internet2 is a network of 200 universities, working together with technology companies and Governments on the Internet of tomorrow.
