Radios from ASUS and TerraTec
Is the future of the radio on the Internet? Now, in this respect, at least the Director in Germany are still skeptical. However, consensus is that the Internet in addition to the classical broadcasting – in particular nationally and internationally – becomes more and more important.

Asus and TerraTec show systems that offer not only the function of a (streaming) radios, but also look at CeBIT. The Asus Internet Radio AIR with wooden chassis that was first issued to the Computex 2007 comes with 10,000 preset channels and is connected to the Internet via WLAN (WEP/WPA). Up to 250 sender may be recorded manually by the user. Played are in WMA format streaming and MP3 with bit rates of up to 320 kBit / s. ASUS specifies only eight Watts power dissipation for the Internet radio AIR, it’s available in Germany but so far yet.

A CeBIT introducing is the Noxon iRadio for iPod from TerraTec which also comes in a more classical design. In addition to the ability of Internet streaming play, the device also has a conventional tuner (including RDS), a USB port, an iPod dock, as well as UPnP functionality. The connection to the Internet is done at TerraTec over wireless LAN (54 MBit/s, WEP/WPA/WPA2) or Ethernet (10 / 100 MBit / s). Played Internet streaming (MP3, MMS) can MP3 (up to 320 Kbps, CBR/VBR), WMA-9 (up to 320 kBit / s) without copy protection, and with Windows Media DRM10 copy protection, AAC +, WAV. Supports ID3 V1.0/V2.0, m3u, and PLS. Of the internal box (5 Watt), audio signals can be played on a line-out, as well as a headphone output (both 3, 5 mm plug).
The iRadio is available only in the version without iPod dock in trade and costs around 155 euros.
