Roadmap: Intel’s near future
Us according to the information Intel is the 600-series presented in February of the Pentium on 14 August 4-processor “Prescott 2 m” reduce basis now actually part significantly in the price and with the Pentium 4 672 and 662 in the 4th quarter come two new models.
| Processor | Current price | As of August 14 | Price reduction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pentium 4 “Prescott 2 m”, socket 775, 2048 KiB L2-cache 90 nm, FSB800, HT | |||
| 670 (3.8 GHz) | $851 | $605 | -29 % |
| 660 (3.6 GHz) | $605 | $401 | -34 % |
| 650 (3.4 GHz) | $401 | $273 | -32 % |
| 640 (3.2 GHz) | $273 | $224 | -18 % |
| 630 (3.0 GHz) | $224 | $183 | -18 % |
Compared to the available series processors, whose model number ends in a “0″ offer the CPUs with the extension “2″ Intel’s virtualization technology Vanderpool, multiple operating systems “in hardware” is enabling simultaneous operation. The processors, have no more price reduction should follow (up) to the presentation, same price ($605 for 672 3.8 GHz, $401 for 662 3.6 GHz) likely to like the gleichgetakteten models without this feature.
There is new information to Intel’s next single core core, the “Cedar mill manufactured in 65 nm”, which will provide the basis for the dual-core CPU “Presler” Double Pack. So is the Cedar mill in the 1st quarter of seamlessly in the 600 series of Pentium 4 be introduced and to clarify the ending of “3″ bear – provided that the Vanderpool technology is enabled. Because in addition to the planned so Pentium there will be also a cedar mill-P4 without Vanderpool 4 663, 653, 643 and 633 models, which will bear the model number 631. The idea of CPUs is planned on the 633 – for the 1st quarter of 2006. Overall, following relationships are likely to apply to the 600 series from next year so:
| Model no | Core | Vanderpool | other features. |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 x 0 | Prescott 2 m | No | 90 nm, 2 MB L2, HT, FSB800, EIST, XD, EM64T |
| 6 x 1 | Cedar mill | No | 65 nm, 2 MB L2, HT, FSB800, EIST, XD, EM64T |
| 6 x 2 | Prescott 2 m | Yes | 90 nm, 2 MB L2, HT, FSB800, EIST, XD, EM64T |
| 6 x 3 | Cedar mill | Yes | 65 nm, 2 MB L2, HT, FSB800, EIST, XD, EM64T |
The Presler also remains for the 1st quarter of 2006 on the roadmap and will appear as a for the time being in the variants 920 (2.8 GHz), 950 (3.4 GHz), 940 (3.2 GHz) and 930 (3.0 GHz). The i955X, and i945 series to support all new CPUs.
In addition to the desktop segment, there is also news about the next generation of the notebook, “Napa”, with their “Yonah” CPU dual-core in the mobile sector will keep moving. While the model names of the multi chip variants remain still uncertain, quantifies for the first time 1.66 GHz Intel the beat of probably, for the time being only single-core Yonah processor, which will not support the Vanderpool technology, and which we still have speculation about a few days ago. Whether this will be the case for the dual-core themes, which also starts at 1.66 GHz, not fixed yet – however, it is planned. The Celeron M this year on the basis of the Dothan core with the model number 390 still up to 1.7 GHz to be driven, is replaced in 2006 also in the 2nd quarter by a descendant of the Yonah and operate from that date under the name 4xx. The frontside bus of these CPUs will be restricted to 133 MHz (FSB533) and 1 MB of L2 cache.
Finally, we can call even first price expectations with regard to the Yonah processors. In principle, that Intel would like to price once again fully make the transition from the Sonoma-to the NAPA platform, as this was already the case for the introduction of the Sonoma platform in January of this year.
| Model no | Core | Single/dual | Clock, cache | Price for the launch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| x 50 | Yonah | Dual | 2.16 GHz, 2 MB, FSB667 | $637 |
| x 40 | Yonah | Dual | 2.00 GHz, 2 MB, FSB667 | $423 |
| x 30 | Yonah | Dual | 1.83 GHz, 2 MB, FSB667 | $294 |
| x 20 | Yonah | Dual | 1.66 GHz, 2 MB, FSB667 | $241 |
| xxx | Yonah | Single | 1.66 GHz, 2 MB, FSB667 | $209 |
“Low voltage” variants of the dual-core CPUs with 1.66 (x 48) and 1.50 (x 38) beat GHz with 316 and 284 dollars to beech. On the basis of single-core LV 1.20 and 1.06 GHz processors are planned.
