Shortage – 20,000 IT vacancies
The skill shortages in the IT industry in Germany has worsened dramatically. This emerges from the recent industry survey of the Federal Association of information technology, telecommunications and new media (BITKOM). Currently, there are about 20,000 vacant positions in the IT industry.
The quarterly carried out investigation, 59 percent of the ICT indicated that the shortage of hinder their activities. This is the highest value since the start of the survey in 2001. Thus the skill shortages become a brake on future growth for the high-tech industry in Germany. Currently, there are about 20,000 vacant positions in the IT industry. We are looking for above all software developers, IT project manager and consultant with a university degree.
In the short term to alleviate the problem of lack of skilled workers, a reform of immigration law is necessary from the perspective of BITKOM. Germany should be more attractive for foreign top talent and offer them a long-term perspective. The experience with the green card had shown that a guest worker status for many highly qualified is not interesting. A reform of migration law must provide for the granting of a permanent establishment allowance of foreign skilled cut by half the income of 85,000 euros currently. The reform of the education system must be pursued at the same time and in the first place. The number of freshmen in computer science is broken since the year 2000 a quarter.
