T-online, operating profit and revenue increases
T Online has significantly 2003 operating profit and sales in comparison with the previous year in the first half. Operating profit improved to 122 million euros after a decline of 43 million euros in the previous year.
Sales rose in 2002 to 894 million euros to 731 million euros in the first half. Group sales is around 22 percent higher than in the period of the previous year. In the segment “Other Europe” T-Online recorded an increase of 47 percent with 82 million euros compared with the previous year.
The increase of operating performance can be traced back in particular to a positive development of the gross profit margin for increasing sales. The margin was 57.5 in the second quarter (Q1: 56,0) percent. Positively the higher percentage of broadband customers and the good network load impacted here. The number of broadband customers increased in the second quarter to 25 percent to 24 percent in the previous quarter. Use at a high level compared to the previous quarter (3,248 minutes) is stabilized with a monthly usage by an average of 3,240 minutes per customer in the second quarter. The typical positive effect of a changed media behavior is evident after major media events.
The development of the customer base, which increased in comparison with the previous year by 10 percent, shows that T-Online has put on one of the growth markets of the Internet with the consistent implementation of the broadband strategy. While in terms of narrow band consolidated’s growth of in recent years, the broadband products developed still very positively: the number of broadband users in Germany increased by 37 percent compared with the previous year. The volume tariffs introduced in the autumn of last year continue to have a high response: with 177,000 customers the number of users compared to year-end 2002 increased by 139 percent. At the reporting date recorded T-Online in Germany 3.01 (previous year: 2.19), millions of customers with broadband broadband tariff – 1.82 million use the flat rate. Thus, the share of the broadband customers is for the total customer position in Germany 29 percent.
