Consumer Electronics Show

For the first time computer base was at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), one of the largest fairs around the world, in January 2008 when it comes to electronics for home use, present. That the trade fair in Las Vegas, United States, will be held, the Editor’s heart is – so the few free minutes can be decorated on the day with impressions of the glittering city. And luckily, there was still the an acclimatisation day before the fair, where it was necessary to treat the jetlag with sightseeing.

So, two editors from different airports in Germany on the comparatively short way to London Heathrow, from which the subsequent flight to Las Vegas, Los Angeles should start made their early in the morning on Friday, the 4th January 2008. Had there been no three-hour delay of the connecting flight in L.A., everything would be promptly smoothly. So had to take advantage of the nearly five hours of compulsory stop by unceremoniously airport was LAX a little explored. But except for the known, wrapped in a framework landmark of the airport, the “theme building”, not much worth seeing was discovered. Finally found a place close to the departure gate, where the time was beaten until started the flight for the last 50-minute trip from LA to Las Vegas. Problems with late check-in at the hotel were there only an incidental.

Already on the following Sunday NVIDIA invited “Editor’s day” to a and towards evening, the first presentations in the context of the CES, including the opening address by Bill Gates, were already held. NVIDIA’s event revolved mainly around the new AMD chipsets, Hybrid SLI, and integrated graphics cores with DirectX 10. Monday it went off properly then, the CES opened their doors and the special page established on the computer base to the fair was quickly filled with messages from the glittering world of IT. With this report, we conclude our live coverage of the 2008 consumer electronic show in Las Vegas. The echo of the producers on the show was consistently positive, actually all want in the coming year the CES participate. On demand after a visit to the CeBIT in March in Germany, there was a very divided echo. While many companies in Germany on the ground will be, to show new products, there are at least as many (small and medium sized enterprises), which will avoid the CeBIT. The difference in the environment between CES and CeBIT was scattered on the ground. There were virtually no end-user laden with bags. Only on the last day, students at a price of juicy $ 100 may visit the exhibition. The exhibitors were always enthusiastic about these conditions. Many of the companies does not break down over night their booths, leave everything open, or just quickly throw a small cover on the exhibits. In Germany, so the manufacturer upon request, this is impossible, because everything is taken, what not spiked or best just welded was – a picture that every year at the CeBIT was taught to us. But perhaps the “new” CeBIT manages to create Yes similar conditions so that the approval of the manufacturer is growing early March.

Overall, our first trip to CES was an interesting, partly also stressiges, but always exciting endeavor that cries out for an encore to Las Vegas.
